What if we swapped our fast-paced, hyper-efficient ways of farming, distributing, shopping, and cooking for something slower—more mindful? Could this shift bring farmers and city dwellers closer together? Might it open doors to fresher, greener, more local food for everyone—citizens, producers, shops, restaurants, and canteens—while reminding us of our role in shaping the food systems we rely on? Join the Danish Town Planning Institute, ActionAid, Villette, and Madland at the Copenhagen Architecture Biennial on 24 September.

What would happen if we slowed down the urban food system?

What answers might we find in a slower approach to food system change and city planning? What would it take to create cities and communities not dominated by fast-moving, super-efficient farming, distribution, shopping, and cooking? Could it foster stronger connections between rural farmers and urban citizens? Would it ensure access to fresh, green, and local produce for citizens, producers, shops, restaurants, and canteens? Could it reconnect people with food and re-engage them in driving change?

Join the Danish Town Planning Institute, ActionAid, Villette, and Madland for a talk exploring how slowing down can help us rethink and design a more responsible food system in an urban setting.

We meet on Wednesday, 24 September, 15:30–17:30 at Villette, Fælledvej 12, 2200 Nørrebro. The event is free with registration is required here. Delicious drinks and snacks are available for purchase at Villette.

Speakers

  • Tina Saaby, Architect and CEO of the Danish Town Planning Institute
  • Christian Pagh, Senior Project Lead of Urban Commons at ActionAid / Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke
